Xmas shots
Bar Soba

Sunday sunny day in Glasgow and once again I found myself and my friends in the shops of Buchanan Street looking around for inspirations. Above a photo of the Xmas decoration of the House of Fraser and the funky lights of Bar Soba where I love having lunch. Their Pad Thai is unreal. Isn’t it all “extraordinary” (post about word to follow)? I was happy to visit again, what else, the Chanel stall and researching for the ONE (remember from the previous post here?) Guess what I bought!!!

The answer in the photos following:

Red stuff
Guess
CC
At Chanel
Coco
Mademoiselle
Smell me again
It is the ONE…(at least for this year…) :-)

I have decided to do this every month (hopefully I will not disappoint you!). It will be a collection of things that inspire me done in a way that I would like to see on my wall. A wall that would put a smile on my face every time I saw it! This is a first time and I decided to collect things that bring me a feel of Paris.
  • Vintage Photo: “The kiss by Hotel de Ville” (1950) by Robert Doisneau
  • Balenciaga Perfume Advert
  • Paris Jacaranda Decor Chair
  • Brigitte Bardot (photo from IMDb)
  • Audrey Tautou in the film “Coco Before Chanel” (photo from IMDb)
  • British Pashley Princess Sovereign bicycle, with a parisian attitude (photo from Pashley Bicycles)
And a bit of music to go with it…

Which are the things that inspire you? Ohhh mon amour….tiritira…

A great book about perfumes is “The perfume” by Patrick Süskind which is also a famous film (2001). Apparently although the novel was very popular and was considered for a movie for years, it was too difficult to film the descriptions of the smells described in the book. In my opinion, a book is always better than its movie as the human brain has unsurcumpable abilities of imagination that could not easily be captured in a film. This is the film trailer.

Which perfume?

I have been having some time in the shops this week here in Glasgow trying out perfumes in the search of my new favourite for the new year coming. I have never been able to stop buying different perfumes rather than stick to one signature perfume for myself. And this is I think because I love perfumes so much. The one perfume I used to think completely as the ONE was called HER by Roberto Cavalli but for some unknown reason to myself the company decided to discontinue it, leaving me perfume-less again. So ever since I have been trying different perfumes in the search of the next ONE.

These are three of my most favourite perfumes to date Lovely, Flower by Kenzo and Un Jardin Après La Mousson by Hermès. I also like Un Jardin sur Le Nil and Un Jardin sur le Toit by Hermès, Her by Narciso Rodriguez, and very recently I am keen to own Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum.

I think it is the new ONE!!!

Check out the new advert…

So what do you think? Which one is your favourite perfume?

Fifi and alli

And this is what I had today! A beautiful cream tea, as they call it here, at a favourite Glasgow cafe, Fifi and Ally. It is situated in Princes Square and it makes the best fruit scones I have ever had. My friend and husband both agreed that this was the case! It does look awesome in the photo yeah? Can you imagine what it actually tastes like? These are the things the cafes back home just cannot do :-( . But hey since I live here I am so lucky to have the opportunity to enjoy them with my friends and my love.

Where is your favourite place for tea or coffee?

Isn’t this girl something else? One of the most talented fashion designers I have come across comes from Greece. Her name Mary Katrantzou. She seems a very nice, well-spoken and educated girl with tons of talent and inspiration. Her clothes I cannot stop looking at. Her prints are a true inspirations and oh how I would love to wear one of her dresses.

Below a video of my favourite “Mary Katrantzou” collection, SS 11. I love the dresses with the long back tail.

Which one is your favourite dress?

I know I know…I have not updated the blog for ages and I have missed it so much! Yesterday we went with some good friends on a boat trip around the Isle of Arran, had a great lunch with Caesar salad and fabulous chocolate cherry pie that my Colin made from scratch, drank champagne and bonded. I was also so happy to wear my red Vogue sunglasses my dad bought for me as a gift for the summer.

Some people above had decided to name their boat “Quantum of Solace”. I found this worth of a picture!

Today I took my dad to our favourite coffee/restaurant place in Glasgow. It is called Little Italy and it has, to my opinion, the best coffee and the best pizza in Glasgow. My dad loves it too and we go there every morning for a treat. I also love their Portuguese tarts. Yum yum!!! I had my favourite cappucino and an amaretto cheesecake.

Where is your favourite place for coffee?

Today I had to say goodbye to something that gave me my freedom in Glasgow the last 3 years. I was never a keen driver and coming to Scotland the idea of driving really challenged me. I suddenly moved out of the city and had to buy a car or wait for the bus that was never coming on time and that was every hour of the day. When I missed it I had to wait for one hour for the next one. So I had to buy a car but I was really scared as I had to learn to drive on the left side of the road (in Greece we drive on the right) and maybe change gears with my left hand (mission impossible! My left hand is only used for supporting purposes and typing, and is usually inactive most of the day).

I bought my beautiful Smart car which was automatic and easy to drive and really freed me. I would recommend it to anyone that feels a bit like me when it comes to driving especially in another country. Today I had to let it go as I have bought a new car (I will post some photos of this in the days to come), so this is a big Goodbye to my beautiful Smart. I wish I could keep it too…but I cannot.

I am a “Smart” person. How about you?

My birthday was yesterday…I woke up to the most wonderfully sunny day I could only dream of. The sun was high in the sky since 8am and the day went on without one cloud in the sky for the rest of it. So hot that you would say summer had arrived in Scotland! Truly magnificent.

My fabulous husband bought me a gift I had been craving for ever, a collective Mark Nuell gold ring with a massive crystal clear aqua marine stone (my birth stone)! My mum bought me a Cacharel “Scarlett” perfume, that has a particular significance to me. We had a beautiful dinner, duck breasts with cherries and pak choi leaves, followed by a chocolate cake full of candles. I did not forget to make a special wish!!! The effect of that beautiful day has not worn off yet…

2. Music

Upload my iPod with new, sweet, exciting music. My favourites are Athena, Norah Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae, Ray La Montagne. But best of all the minute I open my eyes, I draw open my curtains, open the window while my absolute favourite “Feeling good” by Nina Simone plays over the singing of the birds…ohhh bliss!

3. Cocktails

Now I don’t know about you but I have missed the warm nights out with my girlfriends wearing beautiful clothes, going out, and drinking cocktails while we laugh and enjoy life. My favourite places to do this here in Glasgow is the Champagne Bar at the Corinthian Club and the Gardens of Hotel De Vin.

4. Dressing down and staying in

Nothing makes you feel better than taking care of yourself. Sometimes being busy in our everyday life we forget to try to look gorgeous, prioritising unfortunately other things rather than ourselves. Looking great though, makes you feel great too! And this philosophy matches my moto: “If you are going to do anything, either do it in style or do not do it at all”!

5. Spa day

Create your own calming environment with simple tricks that can really change your day! Put on some calming music and a face mask, light some candles and soak yourself in bathtub full of waterlilies! This is what I have done to create a spa atmosphere in my place so please feel free to be inspired! Waterlilies can be found in any garden centre that sells “accessories” for fish ponts. I got mine at Dobbies, Glasgow.

6. Smelling wonderful

After you have indulged yourself in your spa bathtub make sure that you moisturize with the most inspiring beautiful body cream you can lay your fingers in. I love floral scents with a hint of tropical spices but I know that this is a very individualised area. Yet I highly recommend that you should try to sample the “Polynesia Monoi Body Balm“. From perfumes, I love the range of Kenzo perfumes, SJP Lovely, Armani Code and I used to not be able to go anywhere without the Roberto Cavalli “Her” however it is to my despair discontinued :-( ((

So whatever you do, remember to put on your best attitude and mood, treat the day as it is the happiest, most positive, and most bright day in the world and spread that mood that comes from within to everyone and everything that you come in contact with! Have fun!
