For some time now I wanted to tell you about the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice. My friend Julia advised me not to miss the opportunity to visit the museum and she was absolutely right. To be honest, and I am embarrassed to say, I had never heard of Peggy before…or of her extraordinary contribution to shaping the world of modern art as we know it today.  The palazzo is an absolutely beautiful building and completely different to the other palazzo’s on the Grand Canal as it only has one floor. I heard that while it was being built, it started taking down the other palazzos so they had to stop to only one floor. This did not seem to discourage Peggy from buying it and she actually allowed people to come and visit her house to see her beautiful collection while she was sunbathing at the roof garden.

I was fascinated by the paintings and her taste (I almost felt that if I had the money I would go for the same things) and became really interested in learning more about this woman. So I read her autobiography Out of this Century – Confessions of an Art Lover. Her Bohemian lifestyle surprised me  at first however her writing is so good that I could not put it down. Her love life is so rich and also interconnected with her passion about art. But above all, I loved the architecture of the old and new house, the gardens, the gates, the Venitian Well and best of all I loved the art…Definitely recommended!

It actually got me into the mood for buying some art…The next time I am in Corfu I want to visit the studio of some of my favourite painters, Tasos Alamanos and Spyros Alamanos. Totally different artists, totally different techniques, but a result that stays in your memory and heart forever.

Rainy Scotland cannot suppress my summer soul…Summer dates forever!

…are for listening to instrumental music and dream of summer days (I really like the music of Euantia Rempoutsika for example)

…are sitting on a big comfortable sofa with a hot drink and a good book

…are for inviting friends round for lunch and good laughs

…are for chilling on a deck chair with a homemade french martini, closing your eyes or looking at the clouds

…are for taking long walks

…are for strolling down to the Glasgow Botanic Gardens, smelling the flowers and watching the trees dancing

…are for creating connections

…and relax

…are maybe to re-invent your inner self

Sundays are for you…and me

I had a dream….I was dressed in white and had flowers on my hair…

I had a big party, dancing all night with my love and all my friends…

I drove a big sailing boat around Corfu…

I went on a holiday in Venice, where I ate beautiful food and drank the best wine (some of which was INAMA Soave and an amazing Fragolino) recommended by Max at the Trattoria Al Gatto Nero in the amazingly colourful island of Burano (also the best tiramisu and risotto I have ever had!),  I had mojittos on the most picturesque balcony of the Canal Grande, I had lobster pasta and Robolla white wine at “La Patatina”. I fell in love with the “Peggy Guggenheim Collection”. I sat at the unacceptably expensive “Florian” and went on a bicycle ride around the island of Lido.

Then I dreamed that I came back to Corfu…I wore long dresses, met my friends and had dinners and cocktails by the sea.

I went on a speed boat and swam in the tropical sea of Kerasia…

I dreamed a dream of absolute happiness….

"A balcony in Venice"

When in love, life is good…Getting married to someone that is not just your partner but someone you actually want to spend every minute of the day with. The one! The one you miss when you go to work, the one you cannot wait to hear what they have to say on any matter, the one that makes you feel like you own the world. And on that balcony, in Venice, he and I owned the world!

So tonight we tried the creme caramel! And it was great!!! Very light with perfect consistency. Such a great start on my mission to perfect the dish. Mmmm I could just eat another one but I have to hold my horses being on the pre-wedding diet!

P.S. The plate is a Laurie Gates that I bought from a great shop on Sauchiehall Street, TK Max. The best things in very cheap prices!!!
