Hello! I am Katerina. I grew up in the beautiful island of Corfu in Greece and I came to Glasgow in January 2006 to complete my postgraduate studies (I am a qualified dietitian and nutritionist). Two years later I fell in love with a Scottish man (and I am the happiest girl in the world because of him!). Since then I am trying to build a life here, a life that is me and that has all the fun and exciting times that I miss from Corfu. The weather is something you cannot change, but friends, good food and wine and travelling can make all the difference. It took me a while but I am starting a new exciting life here embracing all the positives and trying to learn new things everyday.
This blog has emerged from my need to share this journey of getting acquainted with a different culture and I hope that my experiences may help other people who have found themselves in my position.
Welcome to the world of a Greek Girl in Glasgow!
+Frequently asked questions
1. Where did you learn how to blog?
It took me years and I still have a long way to go! I see it as an exciting everlasting process for the mind. I started blogging in 2006 and then I had a blog in Greek which I really loved. Greek Girl Glasgow is the evolution of this first attempt. I had to learn everything myself. Taking it step-by-step, I was asking at forums, and googling my questions helped a lot but did make me lose valuable time as I had to identify my future needs and looking it up as it came. Nowadays there are easier ways and I would highly recommend taking an online blogging course before you start your venture. You will find everything there organised and ready to go without the waste of time on things that are not useful. I have already finished the Secret Blogger’s Business course and I couldn’t recommend it enough (click and love it too at affiliate link below ;-))!
2. What computer do you use?
I use a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display which I got my hands on and I am literally attached to it whenever I can! The screen is beautiful, clear and vivid and it is as light as a Macbook Air. It is also fantastic as it has an SD card reader so I can upload my photos directly on it. Since I have started using Mac I have never looked back!
3. What camera do you use?
My love for photography is one of the reasons I started this blog. I want to capture beautiful and colourful images that will always remind how wonderful life is! I use a Canon EOS 450D which I bought with the money of my first salary. Unfortunately Canon has discontinued this model now but lose no hope! There is a similar wonderful one that you can get your hands on finding the next best excuse on the planet (Christmas, Birthday, Anniversary, Holiday, Celebration, etc.) and it is the new Canon EOS 700D. I use a favourite Canon EF 50mm – f/1.4 USM Lens with it most of the times as I love the blurred background the 1.4 aperture offers. I occasionally use also the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 (which Colin bought for me on one of his travels) but I definitely prefer the Canon if I can have it my way. I have recently also purchased the Photoshop CC license and I absolutely love it, I can spend hours on it making the photos looking great!
